Andrew Garfield Addresses Spider-Man 4 Rumors: "I’m Gonna Disappoint You"

Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield, beloved for his portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise and Spider-Man: No Way Home, has officially shut down speculation about his involvement in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.

Speaking to GQ UK about his career's "new phase," Garfield emphasized that he's being more selective with his projects post-hiatus. Addressing the persistent rumors, he candidly admitted, “I’m gonna disappoint you.” He acknowledged fans’ skepticism, referencing his firm denials ahead of his surprise return in No Way Home: "Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on."

Open to Franchises in the Right Circumstances

Though Garfield ruled out Spider-Man 4 for now, he hinted that he's not entirely opposed to returning to a major franchise. “If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he shared, suggesting that personal connection and enjoyment are key to his decision-making. In a lighthearted tone, he added: "Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something."

Garfield's Legacy as Spider-Man

Garfield first donned the Spider-Man suit in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. Despite the franchise's cancellation, his portrayal remained a fan favorite. His return in No Way Home marked an emotional highlight for audiences, blending nostalgia with his unique take on Peter Parker.

Updates on Spider-Man 4

While Garfield won’t be reprising his role, franchise star Tom Holland has confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is moving forward, with production slated to begin this summer. Holland recently shared insights on the script during an appearance on the Rich Roll Podcast, saying: "It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me."

Holland also revealed that he and co-star Zendaya read the script together: "We were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ But there’s a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going, but it’s exciting."

A Waiting Game for Fans

While Andrew Garfield won’t be swinging back into the Spider-Verse anytime soon, fans can look forward to Tom Holland’s next chapter as Spider-Man. For Garfield, his focus remains on choosing roles that align with his personal and professional growth.
