Tyra Banks Reflects on Her Bold Return to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Runway
Tyra Banks recently made a triumphant return to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, bringing both nostalgia and empowerment to the runway. The 50-year-old supermodel, who originally retired from modeling in 2005, appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show to share her thoughts on this iconic moment, set to air on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
When discussing her return, Barrymore remarked that Banks exuded joy and confidence during the show. "I felt, coming from you, like, this true joy, true feeling it, true feeling good about yourself," Barrymore noted. Banks agreed, explaining that this time, her walk wasn’t just for herself: “I felt like I was a vessel for 50-year-old women, insecure women, and everyone in between."
Banks also opened up about the changes in her body since her earlier days on the catwalk, sharing that she was 40-50 pounds heavier than when she retired. "My boobies were like 10 times bigger... so I was like, 'Don't fall out, don't fall out,'" she said with a laugh.
Wearing a stunning silver cape with a crystal-crusted bustier, sparkly leggings, and heels, Banks once again captivated the audience. She previously walked in nine VS shows as an Angel before stepping away from modeling nearly two decades ago.
Ahead of the 2024 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York City, Banks teamed up with Gigi Hadid to tease the event’s return. In a playful video shared on Instagram, Hadid receives an invitation in a gold envelope from Banks, signaling the brand’s reimagined show. Victoria’s Secret had announced the comeback in May, stating, “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is ✨ BACK ✨ and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more!”
Banks herself expressed excitement about stepping back on the VS runway, saying, “It feels crazy being back on the Victoria’s Secret runway—‘cray cray good,’ to be exact. I never thought I would be back on this runway.”
