Kylie Minogue Talks Tension II, Viral Hits, and Her 2025 Global Tour
With Election Day approaching, Kamala Harris could potentially be the first U.S. president to have quoted “Padam Padam,” the viral hit from Kylie Minogue's 2023 album Tension. The song dominated TikTok and won the first-ever Best Pop Dance Recording Grammy in February. Now, Minogue is back with Tension II, preceding a major 2025 global tour, which she discussed during an interview with Billboard News.
The Rise of "Padam Padam" and Minogue’s Grammy Wins
Minogue’s latest single, “Padam Padam,” became a cultural phenomenon, driving dance trends on social media and earning her second Grammy. Reflecting on the success, Minogue told Billboard, “I wouldn’t be mad” if the Grammys had created the category specifically for her hit.
Tension II features collaborations with big names like Sia, Bebe Rexha, and Tove Lo. Minogue praised Sia, calling her the “High Priestess,” while joking about their recording collaboration for “Dance Alone.” In a playful twist, the track "My Oh My" introduces each artist's name and star sign, with Minogue relieved that the stars aligned: “Thankfully, we were all different signs.”
Returning to Her Roots
Minogue’s 2025 global tour will feature songs from both Tension albums as well as classics from each decade of her career. Fans can expect to hear “The Loco-Motion,” the hit that launched her career and reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988. After a period of mixed feelings about the track, Minogue now embraces it: “It was the song that started my career… I can really with all my heart and enthusiasm do this song.”
As Minogue gears up to headline Madison Square Garden for the first time, she is focused on delivering an unforgettable experience. She also joked about the logistical challenges of planning a massive tour, saying, “G-U-L-P.” When asked about her tour essentials, she kept it real: “Coffee machine.”
