Kaws: Holiday Exhibition Debuts in Shanghai with Exclusive Mooncake Launch
The eagerly awaited Kaws: Holiday exhibition has arrived in Shanghai, opening on August 28 at the Jing An Kerry Centre. This popular exhibition features a unique pop-up shop, bringing the distinctive art of Kaws, also known as Brian Donnelly, to the heart of the city.
Kaws is a celebrated American artist and designer, known for his fusion of street art and commercial design. His most famous creation, Companion—a figure with a Mickey Mouse-like body, skull head, and X-ed out eyes—has become a cultural icon, especially among collectors of his limited-edition vinyl toys.
One of the key attractions of the Shanghai exhibition is the global launch of the first-ever Kaws: Holiday mooncake set. Available exclusively at the pop-up shop starting at 8:30 pm on August 28, this set features four mini custard mooncakes, each decorated with Kaws’ signature "XX" design. The mooncakes are presented in a circular gift box, a nod to the Mid-Autumn Festival.
To commemorate the Shanghai leg of the Kaws: Holiday tour, Kaws has teamed up with the Hong Kong-based creative studio AllRightsReserved and its online retail platform, DDT Store. Together, they have created limited-edition collectibles, including a glow-in-the-dark Companion figure with a moon element, as well as exclusive hoodies and ceramic mugs. These items will be available both online and in-store, but are expected to sell out rapidly.
Since its launch in 2018, the Kaws: Holiday exhibition has toured globally, delighting audiences in cities like Seoul, Tokyo, and even outer space. The Shanghai pop-up continues this tradition, offering fans a rare opportunity to engage with Kaws' whimsical and iconic art.
